Hume wins Lakin Award
On Wednesday, May 18th, 5th Grade teacher Mrs. Hume became the fourth and final recipient of the Charles Lakin Award. This marks the fourth teacher from Essex to win the award. Mrs.Hume was gifted a $10,000 check as well as a $2,500 gift to Essex Community School. Mrs. Hume is the first teacher at Essex Community School to have a technology based classroom. Mrs. Hume made the choice to teach in Essex after years of teaching for Omaha Public Schools. She has taken on many leadership roles, assisted her class in winning a video game creator competition through Espark and has hosted the highly anticipated Peotry Cafe with her students each year.
