Annual Sweetheart Week Celebrated in the Essex Middle & High School

The Essex High School organizes the annual Sweetheart Week each February which is a great way to break up the monotony of the long season of winter with its timing around Valentine's Day. Students as well as the staff have a fun time participating in all the activities and it enhances the student body by rejuvenating school spirit.

Activities this year included daily dress up days with brain break challenges that came at random times of the day and a pep rally for the basketball games. The varsity volleyball girls coached the high school boys who signed up to participate in the Macho Mania VB game complete with "ESPN" commentators this year, Preston Driskell and Owen Hedditch. The entire student body got to watch the game and the entertainment provided between sets the "Johnson vs. Johnson shoot out and the HS Teachers vs. MS students dance off. The middle school students got to participate in their own VB tournament later in the week as well. While middle school worked in their makerspaces on Friday, high school students got to participate in several special activities such as a movie, scavenger hunt, games, and dance lessons to get ready for the dance Saturday night. The week culminated with the Sweetheart Coronation between the MS & HS dances. It was a busy week and fun was had by all!
